The issue was confirmed with the help of a device called DownDetector, which is a real time device that monitors outage. It reported multiple issues. On Thursday, at around 10pm IST, users faced the issue of not being able to send or receive messages or to make calls using WhatsApp. The exact reason for the problem is still unknown, it might be because of too much traffic on WhatsApp on New Year’s Eve.
