First alleged photos of 12-inch MacBook Air surface online

Photos of what is claimed to be the upcoming 12-inch MacBook Air has been published by iFanr, just days after the news that Apple Supplier Quanta Computer has begun ramping up production of the new model.

The photos depict the claimed display and metal shell from the upcoming 12-inch machine alongside both a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a 9.7-inch iPad. The most obvious difference here is that instead of a backlit Apple logo on the back of the display assembly as is typically seen on Apple’s notebooks, there is a polished metal logo more like those seen on iPads, with iFanr speculating the change could be tied to the device’s thinness.

The display is said to boast a Retina resolution, though the exact pixel count is still a mystery. Unfortunately, there’s no sign of the bottom case for this machine just yet, so the rumored single-port configuration will remain just that for the time being.

The 12-inch MacBook Air is expected to be powered by the new Broadwell Core M processors for faster and efficient performance, and should allow Apple to make the device even thinner than the current MacBook Airs. Reports also indicate that Apple might make the MacBook Air in a Space Gray color, just like iPhones and iPads.

If these photos are indeed real, expect a June 2015 launch at the WWDC.
