The China exclusive W2016 was one of the rare premium options for the small category that flip phones have shrunk into. A large share of a small market is a good thing; Samsung knows that better than us, and thus, the Korean smartphone maker has introduced the W2017, the successor to the flip device.
Don’t get fooled by that dated clamshell design, though. This one here isn’t no slouch, and features top of the line specs and a dual display. The W2017 gets Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, and along with 4GB of generous RAM is quite a scorcher. The phone also gets 64GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD.
Getting on the screen, the phone gets two 4.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED touchscreens. One of these is on the outside while the other one is on the inside. Camera is a capable unit too, and comprises a a 12 MP f/1.9 sensor. It can record 4K videos too. Front camera is a 5 MP unit.
The W2017 gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Samsung’s bloatware infested UI comes loaded on top. The phone gets 4G connectivity and has a 2,300 mAh battery. A metal body means that the phone weights a rather heavy 208g.
Other features on the W23017 include dual SIM capability, a fingerprint scanner, an Always On Display, and fast wireless charging support. As mentioned before, the W2017 is meant only for China and there isn’t any likelihood of it making it to any other market.
Coming on to pricing, don’t expect it to be cheap just because it’s a flip design. On the contrary, it will cost much more than your conventional phones. We expect a price of around $2,000, 1800 euros, CNY 135,000 or INR 1,33,000. Go figure!
