Samsung Gear S3 Smartwatch launched in India; Price, features and all you need to know

While Apple is busy celebrating a discount festival on Flipkart, its rival has launched a Smartwatch in India. The Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch will be available from January 18 across the Korean company’s retail outlets, their website and has been priced at Rs. 28,500. Available in two variants – Frontier and Classic, the watch runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS, instead of Google’s wear platform.

The Frontier variant is the more outdoorsy and casual looking between the two and has been stamped with a MIL-STD-810G Military grade rating.

The Classic variant on the other hand looks more like a dress watch and has a formal appeal to it. Both watches are made out of high-end, watch grade 316L steel, and feature a rotating bezel that enables the user to access certain functions without touching the display.

Both the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatches feature an 1.3-inch (360×360 pixels) Super AMOLED always-on display with Gorilla Glass SR+ protection, IP68 dust and water resistance, built-in GPS and a built-in speaker. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, support Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and NFC/MST.

The Gear S3 Frontier additionally supports 3G/LTE. Both watches are powered by a 380mAh battery. With an iOS specific Samsung Gear S app available now, these watches can connect to your iPhone too.

In sync with its outdoor appeal, the Frontier model of the Gear S3 comes with a cellular radio chip that allows the watch to connect to 4G mobile networks. This enables it to connect to the internet or make calls, without the need for it to connect to your phone.
