Previously, we had seen Asus riding high with their Zenfone 3 AR that was introduced at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show. The phone is equipped with VR as well as AR capabilities and has a few ‘world’s firsts’ to boast about. Well, here’s another from Lenovo that is claimed to be the world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone, the Phab2 Pro. The Phab2 Pro gets Tango – a new tech from big G that enables augmented reality (AR) gaming and utilities. The Lenovo Phab2 Pro is priced at INR 29,990 (approx USD 440). The phone will be available exclusively through Flipkart.
It sports a 6.4inch QuadHD 2560 x 1440 2K wide-screen with IPS assertive tech and 2.5D curved glass. This unit is fitted onto a metallic unibody crafted out of aluminum. The Phablet is available in two colours – Champagne Gold and Gunmetal Grey. Under the hood of the Phab2 Pro is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 Processor that has been optimized for Tango. This Octa-Core SoC employs a combination of 4 x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4 x 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 chip. It is supported by Adreno 510 GPU and 4GB RAM. Its internal memory of 64GB can be expanded upto 128GB via microSD card.
Coming to the USP of the phone, its optic setup, the Phab2 Pro comes with a 16MP RGB main camera mounted at the rear and underpinned by a Depth sensor and a Motion Tracking Sensor which also acts as a fisheye camera for ultra-wide angle panoramics. At the front is an 8MP fixed focus camera equipped with f/2.2 aperture and 1.4um pixel. These four units work in conjunction with Tango and specially-developed software to provide AR experience.
Richard Maltsbarger, Lowe’s Chief Development Officer states that the Tango technology will allow customers to see how their home improvement visions translate into reality like never before. By bringing the Phab2 Pro to Lowe’s (a chain of retail home improvement and appliance stores), the company wants to empower customers with a tool to help them design, start, and complete their home improvement projects with confidence. So if the customer is considering a new kitchen or a just a new stove, they can see exactly how it will look and fit in their space before committing to any purchases.
The Lenovo Phab2 Pro also features a Triple array microphones with active noise-cancellation. It supports Dolby Atmos and Dolby Audio Capture 5.1. The phone comes pre-installed with McAfee Security, Netflix, and SwiftKey. All the above hardware is supported by a 4050 mAh battery that supports fast charging.
