Its launch delayed due to the months long probe into the combustible Note 7, new images of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 have now surfaced online. The phone will apparently be launched in 5.8 and 6.2-inch QHD Super Amoled screen sizes. Although due to an impressive screen-to-bezel ratio, the device’s footprint will be much smaller than other phones we’ve seen till now with similar screen sizes. Unlike the earlier rumor that one of these phones will feature a flat display, both S8s will feature a curved edge design. With this new phone, pressure-sensitive input will make its debut on a galaxy device.
Both variants will be powered by Qualcomm’s finest, fastest and most efficient chipset till date, the Snapdragon 835. Batteries powering the devices will come in capacities of 3000 mAh and 3500 mAh, for the smaller and bigger screen model respectively. Which might not seem much, but due to the efficient nature of the new chipset and some software tricks, power consumption should be conservative. With 4GB of RAM, the Galaxy S8 might not boast of being a beast on paper at least. However, 64 Gigs of storage will be the standard storage option, along with the option to expand it via a microSD card till 256 GB.
The 3.5 mm jack stays for now, although the charging point will be a TYPE-C USB port, which shares space at the bottom along with the speaker grille. The rear camera is said to be a 12MP lens, while the front will be an 8 MP unit. Although both lenses will boast of an aperture ratio of f/1.7. The front camera will have an Iris scanner for company, while the rear lens will allow an object search feature. With no buttons at the front, the fingerprint sensor will reside on the back panel next to the camera lens.
A Siri like assistant by the name of ‘Bixby’ will make its debut with the S8, which will get a dedicated launch button on the sides. It is said to be smarter than similar systems found on the S8’s competition. The phone will also gain the ability to connect to a monitor, where contents can then be controlled via a keyboard and a mouse. As for availability, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be launched on March 29th, before going on sale on April 21st.
