Alcatel is quite a popular brand in the European smartphone space. The TCL backed company has announced that it will unveil 5 new smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017, which will be held in Barcelona in February. Among those 5 devices, one will feature an interesting modular design which will allow users to enhance the functionality of their phone by replacing the back cover.
The concept will be similar to LG’s G5 and Moto Mods for the Moto Z. However, Alcatel claims it has some fun ideas up its sleeves. One of the rumored mods will have colorful LED lights that will glow according to the beats of the music being played on the phone. Information about this device is scanty, but whatever little has managed to trickle in, suggests, it will be powered by a MediaTek chipset and will sport a 13 MP primary camera with dual LED flash. It is said to be one of the most expensive phones ever launched by Alcatel and should cost around 320 Euros when it goes on sale.
The Modular design until now hasn’t been very popular among users. Case in point, the LG G5, the company’s flagship phone, based on the same concept, didn’t do well at all. Although Alcatel has no presence in the Indian market yet, it has some amount of brand recall among early adopters, when its tiny handsets were extremely popular in the grey markets of Bombay.
