It looks like a plan to counter Jio’s Prime offer that was announced yesterday. However, it isn’t as simple. Airtel has rolled out an offer through its ‘My Airtel’ app, where select postpaid subscribers will be able to double the amount of data they enjoy with their current plan, for an additional amount of Rs.100.
So for example, if your current Airtel plan gives you 4GB of data at Rs.500 each month. For an additional amount of Rs.100, you will get 4GB of additional 4G data, making it 8GB data / month for Rs.600. When we clarified the offer with Airtel’s customer service, the agent on the other side mentioned that the offer isn’t applicable to users who are on Airtel’s ‘Infinity’ plans, and has been rolled out to those who are on a customized ‘My Plan’ tariff.
We checked one of our colleague’s ‘My Airtel’ app, which shows that he is eligible for the offer, but only provides him with 1GB of data for an additional Rs.100. His account is on a Rs.549 Infinity Plan, which provides him with 3GB of 4G data every month, and with Airtel’s new offer, another 3GB of 4G data free, until December 31st.
