Sony has revealed its new X-rated lineup of smartphones for the year 2017. The first among them is the XZ Premium, which is a high-end variant of the XZ, while the XZs is essentially a smaller sized phone. Likewise, the Sony Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra are successors to the XA and XA Ultra smartphones which were introduced last year. Confused? Allow us to simplify.
Sony Xperia XZ Premium
Powering the XZ Premium is the high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC which is backed by an Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The device features a 5.5-inch Triluminous HDR display with 4k resolution and offers 64GB of on board storage (expandable till 256 GB). Like most Xperia devices, the Hero feature on this phone is its rear camera, which is a 19-megapixel lens, featuring Sony’s new Motion Eye camera system. It provides 5x faster image scanning and data transfer, and can record videos at 960 frames per second. Which essentially translates to Super slow motion video playback that is four times slower than other smartphones in the market. There’s also a 13-megapixel front camera with 1/3.06-inch Exmor RS sensor.
Weighing 195 grams, the Sony XZ Premium packs a 3230mAh battery and runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. It is IP68 certified water resistant, dust proof and gets Corning Gorilla Glass Protection 5 for its screen. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C (USB 3.1) port. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium will be available globally sometime in Q2 2017, in shades of Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black.
Sony Xperia XZs
The Sony Xperia XZs packs a 5.2-inchTriluminos, FHD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, backed by an Adreno 510 GPU and 4GB RAM. The smartphone offers 32GB and 64GB of internal storage options with the option to expand further via microSD slot (up to 256GB).
The battery is at 2900mAh, while all other specifications are similar to the Xperia XZ Premium. The Sony Xperia XZs will be available in select markets from April 2017 onwards in shades of Ice Blue, Warm Silver and Black.
Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra
The Xperia XA1 Ultra features a 6-inch full-HD display, and is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core SoC, backed by a Mali T880 MP2 900MHz GPU and 4GB RAM. The smartphone offers 32GB and 64GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256GB).
Optics on the XA1 Ultra include a rear mounted 23-megapixel Exmor RS image sensor with hybrid autofocus, 24mm wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture, 5x zoom, and HDR mode. There’s a 16-megapixel Exmor RS sensor at the front with front flash, 23mm wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture, OIS, and autofocus. The battery is rated at 2700mAh, and the device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
Sony Xperia XA1
A pocket friendly phone, the XA1 features a 5-inch HD display, gets 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and offers a 2300mAh battery. The front camera is at 8-megapixel with no front flash or OIS. All other specifications are identical to the Xperia XA1 Ultra.
Both the smartphones will be made available in Q2 2017 and will be available in shades of White, Black, Pink, and Gold. Prices and details about region wise availability have not been announced yet and we’ll bring you that piece of information as and when it arrives. Stay tuned!
