Working for a tech portal introduced us to the possibility of exploring things that we may have never considered in our regular life. We get to review fancy smartphones which cost a bomb, cameras that would’ve probably set us back by several thousand bucks, or even an electric toothbrush which would be one of the last things we’d ever consider. Yes, the last time I was curious about an electric toothbrush was in early 2000s when I saw one in American science fiction, The Time Machine.
“Go ahead. Switch it on. It’ll help people keep their teeth well into their 40s,” said Dr. Alexander Hartdegen to his conservative friend David Philby in the 2002 American Drama/Fantasy film. Fast forward to 2017 and Oral-B’s Pro 2000 Electric toothbrush lands in Gizmoids’ office. Pretty fancy stuff, I must say.
The electric toothbrush is claimed to clear up to 100% more plaque removal as compared to regular manual brushes. It’s also designed to gently massage the gums. For more features such as thorough cleaning of sensitive areas and whitening, you’d have to shell out extra moolah and buy the Model 4000. In this review, we test the Pro 2000. So I ditched my regular toothbrush for this Oral-B and here’s my experience.

The design is pretty simple and functional. The toothbrush is slim, easy to hold with power button accessible by the thumb. The ribs at the rear give a perfect grip to the toothbrush. It gets a dual tone finish. At the front is a blue rubber finish that runs through the length of the brush. The blue rubber also features ribs on top for a good grip. At the front-top is the power button. The lower front of the brush features battery charger indicator (top) and low-battery indicator (bottom). At the top rear is a pressure indicator which glows red if you apply too much pressure. It’s an indicator to reduce the pressure. Once the sensor is triggered, the system automatically reduces the speed of the brush to avoid any damage to the teeth or gums.
The box comes with a CrossAction brush head which gets installed in a click and is good to last for upto three months. The brush head features light blue indicator bristles to help monitor brush head replacement need. The angled bristles ensure deep cleaning and removing the plaque. Its compact design covers the gaps in the teeth with utmost efficiency, giving a perfect clean.
The brush operates in two modes. One click of the power button triggers daily clean mode which lasts for two-minutes. The brush changes oscillation every 30 seconds. At the end of two minutes, the brush will give another tone to confirm the end of cycle. Two clicks of the power button will turn on the gum care mode which is designed to gently massage the gums. To turn off the brush from daily clean mode, press the power button twice. To turn off operations from gum car mode, press the power button once.
It gives a thorough clean up of the mouth while the sensors make sure you don’t damage your teeth or gums in the process. I was pretty happy with the results over the week that I tested the brush.
How long does the battery last?
With full charge, it will last upto seven days with usage of four minutes a day (2 minutes, twice a day). A full charge does take a fair amount of time and you’d have to keep it plugged in for upto 22-hours for full battery. Charging is pretty easy. Just dock the brush on the charger and let it power up.
Value For Money?
At INR 5,800 (currently available at 10% discount on Amazon), the Oral-B Pro 2000 does sound slightly expensive but it really isn’t if you consider the overall package. The brush head, which is good for about three months per unit is easily available online. A box of two brush heads would cost you INR 955 while a box of four will set you back by INR 1,800. The set should last six months and one year respectively. As aforementioned, for more features such as thorough cleaning of sensitive areas and whitening, you’d have to shell out some more bucks but for an everyday toothbrush, the Oral-B Pro 2000 is everything that you’d ever need.
