Sony’s 1TB PS4 Ultimate Player Edition is coming next month

This year’s E3 saw a lot of new games from Sony and Microsoft, but things weren’t as excitring on the hardware front. Microsoft did unveil its 1TB Xbox One and now it is Sony’s turn to follow up with a larger capacity PlayStation.

The company has now officially announced its 1TB version of the PS4 on its blog, stating that it will go on sale on 15 July in Europe and PAL territories. Dubbed the Ultimate Player Edition, the PS4 will definitely be making an appearance in the US, thanks to an FCC filing that was revealed some time ago.

Sony has also updated its PlayStation app for iOS and Android with a couple of useful features. The first is the ability to enter PSN gift cards and promotional codes, so users no longer have to power on their PS4 to redeem them. The second is the ability to display comments on a phone or tablet while broadcasting from the console — perhaps a simpler way to keep your streaming setup neat and tidy.

Like Microsoft’s 1TB console, the 1TB PS4’s look remains unchanged, simply housing a larger hard drive twice the size of the largest available since launch.

Sony’s European blog didn’t offer any pricing information on the new console, instead asking its readers to contact their local dealers for more information on pricing and availability.
