As sad as we are to report this, this is Jon Stewart’s last week hosting The Daily Show on Comedy Central. And if there has been one theme from the beloved comedian and political commentator’s time on The Daily Show, it is his ongoing love-hate relationship with Fox News.
On Monday, Stewart took his time to fire one last salvo at his bete-noire. “They didn’t seem to support their assertions with evidence,” Stewart said after playing clips of Fox anchor Howard Kurtz criticizing him for visiting the White House and speaking with President Obama several times.
Stewart then moved in for the kill with a barrage of Fox clips showing their hosts criticizing Obama by pointing out that “even” Stewart himself was knocking him on various policy decisions. It was also Kurtz, Stewart noted, who reported on Fox officials instructing the news department to call the Affordable Care Act — a.k.a. Obamacare — “government-run healthcare” at every opportunity.
“My hunch is this show’s been harder on the Obama administration and this president per capita than you ever were in your eight years of Bush fingerbanging,” Stewart concluded to a rapturous audience.
The Rosewater director also invited Fox to look into it and get back to him, but said he didn’t expect a response since they still haven’t answered his “50 Fox Lies in 6 Seconds” segment that Comedy Central released earlier this year.
“How’s that mother—–g taste?” Stewart yelled, before pretending to pull the pin out of an imaginary grenade and throwing it onto the “Daily Show” set, which erupted into digital flames.
“Adios, mother—–s!” he screamed, only to be reminded by someone offstage that he still has three shows left, including a nearly hour-long finale on Thursday.
It was glorious. We will miss him.
