LG demoes staggeringly beautiful 98-inch 8K TV at CES

4K is so yesterday. 8K is where the buzz is right now. At least that’s what we will think going by all the hype coming from CES this year. And at the top of the game is LG.

The Korean manufacturer’s pride and joy is the 8K TV measuring in at a whooping 98-inches. Imagine four 4K displays squeezed into one and this is basically what you get.

LG has also announced its new Quantum Dot TV ahead of rival Samsung’s similar offering. LG will show off this TV at CES this year. LG says that quantum dots offer a 30 percent increase in color gamut. In total, LG will be showing off nine 4K TVs at CES.

Then there’s Quantum-dot, the next level of displays after OLED. Touted by both LG and Samsung, quantum-dot TVs make use of incredibly small “nanocrystals” which serve to control the color of the TV’s pixels, thus enabling the TV to produce excellent quality clarity that is estimated to be 30% better than current LCD TVs on the market. As it takes advantage of LG’s lauded ColorPrime technology, it is also well-suited to off-angle viewing – and yes, it’s 4K, meaning that those colors will also be in ultra high-definition at a resolution of 3840 x 2160.

The quantum-dot TV is currently one of the leaders of LG’s strong line-up at CES 2015, with the company also set to reveal new OLED TVs on the show floor, too.
