Facebook is trying to push Instagram ahead as a profitable medium for advertisers to rely on. This is due to the fact that the application has recently crossed 400 million active users across the world. Advertisers have a tremendous scope to find customers from every kind of target audience that they have in their minds. In fact, micro blogging site, Twitter has only 320 million active users in the world, and therefore with this move, facebook seems to be directly targeting Twitter and making Instagram a favorable place for advertisers to reply upon.
It has been two months since Facebook opened up its image and video sharing service – Instagram to businesses. Quite a few large and small companies are already earning substantial profits with their presence on Instagram, prominent among them are Nestle, P & G, Grofers and Paperboat. Facebook has even made matters easier for advertisers by integrating the backend advertising mechanism for facebook and Instagram. This can also provide another option for those businesses who already have an online presence through facebook.
This push for Instagram as a preferable choice for advertisers can reach new heights, especially in emerging economies like India, observed Kirthiga Reddy, MD of Facebook India. According to senior officials in facebook, active users for Instagram in India have more than doubled in the past one year. Therefpre the world’s largest social networking site – facebook, which currently has an user base of 1.5 billion active users worldwide is making a pitch for itself and Instagram as an integrated advertising vehicle to marketers.
Online presence has benefited not just high end brands but even small scale shops that you would normally see in street corners and startups alike. With this move, facebook stands to earn more revenue than before and at the same time give a fillip to the emerging businesses to be able to sustain in the market.
