Yahoo has now come up with a next generation messaging platform in a bid to steal the limelight off the competitors like Facebook Messenger and Google Hangouts. The new version of Yahoo Messenger was released for devices running on Android and iOS. It was also simultaneously released for the web and for use on desktop computers. This updated version of Yahoo Messenger is set to replace the old version on its free email service which boasts of a whopping 225 million users monthly. This news is set to raise the excitement level for those associated with Yahoo email while at the same time getting others to sign up for the service.
This revamp comes at a time when smart phones have become very common and every user fires off digital updates or shares photos or videos at every possible opportunity. It therefore was indeed high time that the company come up with a complete remake of the Yahoo Messenger which was first introduced seventeen years ago. The new Messenger will now compete with several established messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat and even iMessenger.
Austin Shoemaker, Senior Director product management, Yahoo, said while officially launching the new version, Yahoo decided it was time to build a ground-up rewrite of the platform that was completely modern and prepares Yahoo to ship really disruptive innovative features. This kind of statement reiterates the company’s renewed focus on the messaging platform which had lost its sheen due to competitions from many others which have cropped up recently.
According to Shoemaker, the new version of Yahoo Messenger is a combination of the best offered by the company owned Flickr, Tumblr and Xobni. This new version allows users to quickly share large batches of high resolution images and even add animated GIFs to conversations as easily as one inserts emojis into text.
