Samsung has officially confirmed the development of its next-generation mobile chipset, the Exynos 2500, during a recent earnings call with investors. The new chipset is being developed by Samsung’s System LSI division and is expected to be a critical component in the company’s lineup of flagship products in the latter half of 2024.
Exynos 2500 SoC Specifications and Features
The Exynos 2500 SoC will be fabricated using a 3-nanometer process and will feature Samsung’s Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor architecture. This advanced architecture is designed to enhance performance by up to 23 percent while simultaneously reducing power consumption by 45 percent, compared to previous technologies. Although Samsung did not specify which devices will feature the new chipset, the emphasis on a stable supply suggests it will play a significant role in Samsung’s flagship offerings.
There is speculation that the Exynos 2500 could be used in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series in certain regions. Samsung has historically employed a dual-sourcing strategy, using its in-house Exynos chipsets in some markets and Qualcomm’s SoCs in others. For instance, the Galaxy S24 lineup in India featured the Exynos 2400 SoC, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra was equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Samsung.
Expansion of Image Sensor Applications
In addition to the new chipset, Samsung announced plans to broaden the use of its 200-megapixel image sensors. The company aims to extend these high-resolution sensors from wide-angle applications to telephoto lenses, enhancing the camera capabilities of its future smartphones.
Outlook for the Second Half of 2024
Samsung reported quarter-on-quarter growth in its mobile market segment, attributing this success to strong demand for its flagship devices, timely launches, and increased sales of rigid panels. Looking ahead, the company anticipates continued growth in its premium smartphone segment during the second half of 2024, despite expecting a slowdown in the mass-market segment.
To drive revenue, Samsung plans to focus on expanding sales of its flagship smartphones and ecosystem products. The company remains optimistic about the Galaxy S24 series maintaining its current growth momentum, supported by robust marketing efforts.
With these developments, Samsung aims to solidify its position in the high-end smartphone market, leveraging cutting-edge technology like the Exynos 2500 and advanced image sensors to attract discerning consumers.
