LG to Launch More Affordable Devices

This year, in order to regain its place in the domestic smart phone market, the Korean tech giant LG, will launch more affordable and flagship smart phones in India. In the premium category, we find the company competing with companies like Samsung, Apple and Sony. LG will be launching 5 to 6 smart phones in the range of INR 15,000 category to take advantage of the rapidly increasing Indian smart phone market. Today it launched its flagship smart phone G5 for INR 52,990.

LG Electronics India MD Ki Wan Kim told PTI, LG is a leader in consumer durables but that is not the case for mobile phones. We are starting to analyse that. We will prioritise meaning presence in segments. According to Tech 2 website Kim added that LG is studying various segments and will launch products in the affordable category, which accounts for a significant portion of the Indian handset market. He also said that we are looking at sub-Rs 10,000 and sub-Rs 15,000 range tentatively. Till Q3, before Diwali, we are looking at launching 5-6 models to test the market.

Kim also said, that they were waiting to see the response before deciding of launching smart phones designed for the Indian consumers. In the whole globe, after China India is the second largest smart phone market. Samsung, Micromax, Intex, Lenovo, Lava and Xiaomi are some of the leading brands being sold in the market. The G5, comes with a modular design. This smart phone is powered by a  Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 5.3-inch display, 4GB RAM, 32GB memory which can be expanded  up to 2TB and it also sports a  2,800 mAh removable battery. Kim said this phone will certainly amaze the smartphone users with its ability to be transformed into multiple devices like digital camera, Hi-Fi player and more. G5 will certainly redefine smartphone experience for consumers.
