Chinese conglomerate Xiaomi has unveiled its second-generation Mi Band 2 in China. The new band from Xiaomi will go on sale starting June 7 just as promised by the company CEO a week back. The new Xiaomi Mi Band 2 packs a host of improvements over its predecessor and has been priced at CNY 149 which is roughly INR 1,500. The features include an all-new OLED screen and the much wanted heart rate sensor. The original Mi Band was unveiled back in the year 2014 and was then priced at USD $13 which is roughly INR 790. However, the company has so far not revealed any international availability details of the new Mi Band 2 wearable.

The new Mi Band 2 puts its focus on the user’s health. It does so by helping them track their fitness and sleeping routine. In this regard it is quite similar to other existing wearable devices available in the market. The new band boasts of Bluetooth wireless connectivity to enable pairing with smart phones. Like the original Mi Band, the new band also vibrates to alert users about incoming calls, alarms, and other notifications. The biggest addition to the new Mi Band 2 is the 0.42-inch OLED display which will show the user not only time, but also steps walked, and heart rate count among others. A notable addition is the PPG (photoplethysmography) sensor as a heart rate monitor.

Xiaomi’s new Mi Band 2 packs a 70 mAh battery which the company claims can deliver up to 20 days of standby time. Its predecessor which featured no display had a battery life of up to 30 days. The upcoming Mi Band 2 wearable supports Bluetooth 4.0 to enable pairing with the smart phone. Its dimensions are 40.3 mm long, a width of 15.7mm, and a side width of 10.5mm. According to the company listing, the Mi Band 2 weighs just 7 grams.
