Luxury Swiss watch brand, Omega, has been in association with the Olympic Games since 1932. The watch company has been the official Timekeeper of the world event and has fulfilled the position on 26 occasions since 1932. The relation between the organization and the event will continue with the tradition of timekeeping at the upcoming 2016 edition that will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In order to celebrate the occasion, Omega held a special event in Bangalore with one of India’s ace Badminton players – Saina Nehwal.
Commenting on her association with the brand, Saina said, “There is a natural connection with OMEGA as it stands for precision, excellence and accuracy which are also the cornerstones of every sport. I am honoured to be here today for a brand that has been timing the greatest sporting event for the last 84 years.”
As a tribute to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Omega launched three timepieces – The Seamaster Diver 300M Rio 2016 and Bullhead Rio 2016, and the Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016. Speaking about the Seamaster Diver 300M Rio 2016, Omega will roll out only 3016 units of the same and will bear a pricetag of INR 268,100.
The folks at Omega say that the Seamaster Diver 300M Rio 2016 limited edition watch is inspired by the Copacabana waves. Copacabana is a neighborhood located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The wave pattern has been taken from the mosaic design on Copacabana’s sidewalks and used as an inspiration for a similar style on the watch’s striking lacquered black dial. The new upgraded and enhanced Seamaster Diver 300M Rio 2016 features a uni-directional rotating diving bezel that is made from black polished ceramic. What sets this watch apart from its previous models, are the lacquered numbers in red, green, yellow and blue, which represent the five colours of the famous Olympic rings.
Other features of this timepiece are typical of the Omega Seamaster 300M and are as follows-
- Date window at 3 o’clock
- Helium escape valve at 10 o’clock
- Polished facetted skeleton rhodium-plated hands coated in white Super-LumiNova
- Stainless steel bracelet
- A timepiece is driven by the Omega calibre 2500
- Water resistance up to 30 bar (300 metres / 1000 feet).
- Embossed and engraved screw-in caseback with the ‘Rio 2016’ logo
- An individual Limited Edition number on the reverse side of the polished and brushed stainless steel case.
Another special feature of the 2016 Olympic games is that the elite sport of golf will return to the event for the first time in more than a century. That’s all folks!
