All Moto phones from 2016 onwards to sport fingerprint scanners

Chen Xudong, SVP Lenovo Group and President of the company’s China and APAC regions expressed his surprise on why Motorola handsets missed out on fingerprint sensor last year, saying he did not comprehend the reasons behind it. Talking to a Chinese publication, Xudong said all Motorola smart phones launching in 2016 will feature a fingerprint scanner. He also revealed that both Lenovo and Motorola will merge their interfaces into a new UI, which can be expected to be unveiled in 2017. This indeed comes as a good news for Motorola users who are hooked to their devices or those who are contemplating buying one this year, especially with the success of Moto G (all generations) and Moto X (all variants).

Also, all Motorola phones will feature a screen size of at least 5-inches and there will be no handset in the lineup measuring around 4.7-inches, which was the screen size of original Moto X. Speaking about the design, he said that Moto handsets will receive tweak in their design to better suit consumers from eastern and western parts of the world. Following up on the company’s recent announcement, Xudong said that Moto handsets will now be targeted towards high-end while the Lenovo’s Vibe range will be used for budget segment.

Certain rumors floating around on the internet had already predicted the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner in the 2016 version of the Moto X. Other rumors also claim that Motorola’s fourth-generation smart phone, would pack a heat pipe for passive cooling at the back panel, and also sport a metal frame design. These rumors can only be confirmed once we receive official communication from Lenovo regarding upcoming specs. However, considering the usual gap between launches, that may not be anytime soon.

Lenovo also recently announced that it would overhaul the Motorola brand to “Moto by Lenovo”.
