Android 5.0 Lollipop has been out for almost three months now, but as you probably know by this point, that doesn’t mean very many people are actually using it. Actually, according to Google’s new platform distribution numbers, even fewer people than expected are on the latest and greatest Mountain View has to offer. But still, there’s a faint glimmer of hope for Google’s most ambitious update to its Android operating system.
Google has just updated its Platform Versions page for Android, and it looks like the latest version has finally shown up. Android 5.0 Lollipop has grabbed its first percent of the adoption pie, cutting into the growth of Android 4.4 KitKat, the only other version to gain adoption share this month. Until now, Lollipop wasn’t showing up because its usage was negligible — Google says “Any versions with less than 0.1% distribution are not shown.”
Meanwhile, Android KitKat climbed to 39.7 percent, no doubt helped by a market where a good chunk of phones still ship with the 2013-era OS. As you might guess, the declines are largely limited to Jelly Bean and earlier versions that you’d expect to be on their way out.
