News reports originating from South Korea are reportedly claiming that a deal has been finalized between the two major electronics manufacturers. Samsung Electronics is all set to become the exclusive OLED panel supplier to Apple’s electronic devices. Media sources claim that the deal has progressed at a rapid face and the Korean Tech Giant is already working towards expanding its OLED production capacity to meet extra demands from Apple. The first device from Apple to come out with an OLED display was the Apple smart watch which fueled speculations of future phones and other electronics coming with similar displays.
This deal also coincides with rumors regarding Samsung mulling over selling its LCD manufacturing plant in Cheonan, South Korea. If Samsung does sell the aforementioned plant, it cal fully concentrate on OLED panel manufacturing for the time being and the extra revenue that it garners from the sale can also help boost the production of OLED to help meet the higher anticipated demands. So, over all, it seems like a planned execution for Samsung and not a mere coincidence that one sale helps boost revenue to meet expectations from another deal.
The OLED screens sport a darker black in their display pattern which helps blend in more effectively with the bezel of an iPhone and this may well be the reason behind Apple wanting OLED screens for all its devices from now. However, not all devices will start sporting the OLED display immediately and experts believe that it will be almost three years before all devices officially come with the OLED display.
In the meanwhile, Apple is expected to bring out devices with its LCD – TFT display as this one is more power efficient and it will also help the company to continue manufacturing till its demand for OLED displays are met through this deal as per their requirement.
