Apple Music will play on Sonos home audio systems by the end of 2015

For those of you who are eagerly awaiting the launch of Apple Music tomorrow and also happen to own Sonos audio systems or speakers, we’ve got good news for you. The music service will go live on Sonos speakers before the end of the year, a Sonos spokesperson confirmed Sunday. The confirmation came after Apple Music senior director Ian Rogers said on Twitter that the service will add Sonos support as soon as possible.

Although Beats Music did have native support on the popular internet-connected speaker system, there have been no announcements about a partnership with Apple Music so far.

Getting onto Internet-connected loudspeakers like the ones made by Sonos could be crucial for Apple Music: More than half of all music listening happens in the home, according to a recent study. Beats Music had been working on its own Internet-connected loudspeaker before the company was acquired by Apple, and originally planned to introduce it in time for last year’s holiday season — but the project got nixed following the acquisition.

Sonos had previously announced that its hardware would “not have Apple Music on it at launch,” adding that “we fully expect to support them when they’re ready to focus on the home listening experience. Right now they’re fully focused on mobile.”

Apple Music is going to be launched on June 30th, initially users get a three month free trial before having to pay $9.99 per month for the service.
