The US car maker – Ford has recently made it public that it will now be offering support for Apple Siri Eyes-free voice activated technology through its Ford Sync software that is currently available in more than 5 million Ford vehicles on road. According to the company, the update will be available as a download for vehicle owners who can themselves update the infotainment system via a USB pen drive or get it done at a dealership. This service will now make it possible for Ford vehicle owners to send or receive audio from a car to an iPhone and vice versa.
In other terms, Ford will now add support for Siri, so all that a user needs to do is engage the push to talk button which is now available on most Ford vehicles, to directly connect to Siri. Users can use this technology to connect to Siri without even reaching for their smart phones.
Commands like reading text messages, replying to them, making phone calls, getting driving directions, changing music tracks or adding audio to a playlist can all be managed without touching the smart phone which can remain in the pockets. This shall also enable a better distraction free driving environment.
However, there is no information about these aforementioned conversations with Siri being displayed on the car dashboard LCD. Neither Siri Eyes – free, nor the older vehicles since 2011 support displaying related data to either device. Whether the eyes – free technology will remain completely eyes free even when connected to the car will only be answerable when the first vehicle is integrated with this new technology. Until then, speculations shall keep coming but with no means to confirm the same.
