Asus is expected to announce the new third-generation of the ZenFone smart phones at its Computex 2016 event scheduled on May 31. Asus CEO Jerry Shen has shared some details of the upcoming ZenFone 3 smart phone series saying that it will launch in June and the product targets the mid-range segment. Shen also added that this year 90 percent of the ZenFone 3 smart phones will have a Qualcomm processors while the remaining 10 percent devices will pack MediaTek processors. He further claimed that the ZenFone 3 devices will be available in six countries by August 2016. Shen went ahead to reveal plans for a Max model under the ZenFone 3 range and added that it will account for nearly two-thirds of total shipments. The other variants of the device, namely, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 were also teased.
Talking about competition, Shen told Digitimes that Asus will compete with the likes of Huawei and Oppo in the Chinese market. The publication adds that Asus saw its smart phone revenue increasing over 40 percent on year in the Q1 2016 that was primarily due to strong sales in Southeast Asia, Brazil, Russia, and Europe. Earlier, ZenFone 3 smart phones, which were codenamed Z010DD and Z012D were spotted in benchmark listings in January. The former was seen featuring a 5.9-inch HD display along with a 12-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera; an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC; 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of inbuilt storage, while the latter featured a 5.5-inch full-HD display; a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC; 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of inbuilt storage. The ZenFone 3 and the ZenFone 3 Deluxe smart phones were also leaked in images purportedly showing the design of the handsets.
