BMW CEO Harald Krueger faints on stage at Frankfurt Auto Show

The Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) is an incredibly important event for the world’s major automakers, and probably even more so for the German Big Three. Unfortunately, BMW was forced to abruptly end a press conference at the ongoing motor show after Chief Executive Officer Harald Krueger collapsed on stage.

The CEO, 49, was escorted offstage by two assistants following the incident which took place shortly after the briefing started. Krueger is being treated by a doctor after the “moment of dizziness,” BMW spokesman Maximilian Schoeberl said in a statement, adding that the CEO’s condition is stable and he’s recovering well.

It was the first appearance at a major auto show by Krueger, who took the helm as CEO of BMW AG in May. A BMW source added: “He’s not been hospitalised, he was seen by a doctor immediately afterwards and effectively given the all-clear.”

Krueger had undertaken a lot of travel immediately before this and had said he had been feeling slightly unwell before going on stage but insisted on going on with the press conference.

“He just suffered a severe bout of dizziness and immediately after was examined and found to be fine. He’s not in hospital but I think he has left the show and doesn’t plan to return today.”

Chief financial officer Friedrich Eichiner took over the press roundtable that was held afterwards.

We wish Harald Krueger all the best.
