BREAKING: TV reporter and cameraman fatally shot during live television broadcast in Virginia, USA

An unidentified gunman opened fire and killed a reporter and her cameraman during a live interview about a local business in a suburb of, Virginia, USA, today (Wednesday) morning, according to WDBJ, the two journalists’ employers.

Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were interviewing a woman when the shots rang out, eliciting terrified screams from the two women. In the video posted on Facebook, viewers can get a small and blurry glimpse of the gunman who appeared to pointing a gun toward the cameraman who had fallen down with his camera. WDBJ, an affiliate channel of CNN, quickly cut away to a shocked anchor, Kimberly McBroom, back in the studio.

The station later announced that the two journalists had been shot dead. The woman who was being interviewed at the time of the shooting was shot in the back and is in surgery.

The gunman’s identity and intention aren’t known yet. Bedford and Franklin Counties police and law enforcement are on scene investigating the incident and WSLS reports that half a dozen officers from their department are on scene searching the shoreline and surrounding area for a suspect. The police said that they are hoping to get a description out to the public shortly.

WDBJ’s station chief said the news team would hold a memorial on Wednesday afternoon.
