What was until now a traditional notebook computer, the Dell XPS 13 has transformed into a Two-in-One. Flexing its screen to answer the likes of Lenovo’s Yoga, the ultra portable PC can now be used in tent, tablet or presentation mode.
A 13-inch notebook that looks smaller than it actually is, the Dell XPS 13 has shrunk even more, as it now runs a new Intel 7th-generation Kaby Lake processor. While you may opt for a Core i5 or a Core i7 processor, thanks to Intel’s fanless design for these new ‘Core M’ processors, form remains the same, while performance varies. Customization options let you pick from up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD.
The almost bezel less display remains and you may choose between a Full HD (1920×1080) and QuadHD+ (3200 by 1800) display. The webcam gets Windows’ Hello support and allows for facial recognition security, while for an additional charge, you may tick the option for a fingerprint scanner. You get two USB Type-C ports, one of which is Thunderbolt 3.0 compatible. These ports can be used to charge the machine or connect and power up to two 4K displays at once.
Dell will also bundle a USB-C adapter for connecting older peripherals. Replacement of a full SD card slot with one that supports microSD cards could bother some. Prices start at $999.99, while shipping begins in the US from 5 January.
