Criptext, a tool that allows users to delete sent and even read emails, raises $5,00,000 in funding

We have all been there; hitting ‘send’ on an important email, then realising just a split second letter that there was a typo in there.  Or maybe sending emails with subject matter that, in retrospect, should never have been sent, whether drunk or sober.

Thankfully, now there is a tool that allows you to ‘unsend’ those hastily-worded or plain wrongly worded emails, with a small catch. Criptext is an extension for Chrome and Safari that prevents recepients from reading an email that you regret sending. It operates inside your email and you can track when, where and who has opened emails or downloaded attachments inside your emails with it too. There even is the option to add a self-destruct timer to your emails, a la Snapchat, that will automatically recalls sent emails after a predetermined length of time. Users can also send encrypted emails to anyone, regardless of whether the recipient is also using Criptext. Even if your recipient has read your emails, you have the option to recall it back.

The service bills itself as a itself as a more secure way to send email, and has raised $5,00,000 in a seed round from private investors, including firm ICD Group Limited. The new funding will be used to keep growing Criptext’s customer base and to improve and iterate on its product.

If this feature sounds a bit familiar, it is because Google already has a variation of it hidden away in its Google Labs. Simply called ‘Undo Send,’ the feature has just been let out of Labs, and can now be found in your Gmail’s general settings. Give it a shot and see if you would like a more powerful version of it with Criptext.
