Current Nexus Devices will not support Android N’s Seamless Update Feature

At the I/O conference held on Wednesday Google revealed the new improvements that they are bringing about in their Android N. The Android N Developer Preview 3 includes some of the new changes. During the keynote the company had stated that the Android N will introduce Seamless Updates which is a feature takenfrom Chrome OS. However now only new model of Nexus devices will enjoy the facility of taking advantage  of Seamless Updates. Thus the next generation will be able to enjoy limited features. Android Police has found out that the  Android N’s new Seamless Update sports few technical requirements, due to which the older generation Nexus devices are not capable of supporting the feature.  We have to wait and see whether OEMs will  implement the required changes in their upcoming devices.

Usually in Seamless Updates the system updates usually come in the form of deltas meaning that only that part of the system that is changed can be downloaded to a backup boot partition. When we restart the system the backup partition becomes the primary. If there is any problem with the update then the user can go back to the old system to use the previous partition.
