They say, imitation is the best form of flattery. Or, is it? Take a look at this, the Remix Ultra Android tablet by a new company called Jide. Notice anything familiar? Yes, it is eerily similar to the Microsoft Surface.
Created by three ex-Google engineers, the Remix has the same flip-out kickstand on the back and a super thin magnetically attachable keyboard. It runs a special version of Android called Remix OS, which looks a lot like someone combined Chrome OS, Android Lollipop, and “Metro.” It can even run side-by-side apps.
On the specs side of things, the tablet sports a Nvidia processor, 2GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear and front-facing cameras, 11.6-inch 1080p IPS display and Android 4.4.2 with a skin overlay called Remix OS. The modified skin is meant to look more like a typical desktop, but with access to mobile apps right from Google Play. It’ll also feature multi-window support, giving it productivity superpowers. Other specs include 16GB or 64GB of expandable storage (up to 128GB), and a proprietary 4-pin charger. It’s not going to overpower anything that’s currently on the market, but it’ll certainly get the job done, and the design is pretty slick.
Jide plans to launch the Remix tablet in the US this year priced at $349 for the basic 16GB model. Lets just hope Microsoft is okay with that.
