The field of App developers has seen a spike in the past 2-3 years. Google estimates that by 2018, India will have the largest population of developers in the world. They say that India will have close to four million software developers. Majority of population in India accesses the Internet via mobile devices while only 25 percent are currently being trained to develop and build apps for mobile platforms; therefore it is an issue to be taken into consideration. Thus at this year’s Google I/O, Sundar Pichai had first mentioned the Android Skilling Program and now to bridge the gap Google has actually announced the program. In the program they will focus on training students to make apps for Android. It is estimated that in the next three years Google will be training around two million developers in the country. In tune to the Government’s Skill India program, Google is planning to do this under three aspects which include End-to-End Android training, Training Channels and Associate Android Developer Certification.

In India, Google already offers the Android Nano degree program in association with Udacity which has seen close to 11,500 students enrolling every month in the end-to-end Android training. This year Google has added the Android Developer Fundamentals course which is an instructor led training program, which will be available not only through public and private universities but also through training institutes under the National Skill Development Corporation of India. Google says that this year they have spoken to the universities to integrate the inperson training with the curriculum of Computer Science courses at universities. The students will not have to pay any amount for the courseware and practicals.
