Say hello to the king of anorexic smartphones. Gionee, the Chinese brand that has taken the subcontinent by storm with its high-end specs at low prices, has launched its Elife S5.1 smartphone at a price of INR 18,999. The phone will be available in the first week of December in white, black, blue and pink colours.

With a thickness of just 5.1mm (hence the name), the Elife S5.1 was also recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the slimmest smartphone in the world last September. However, Oppo, another Chinese upstart, has broken the record by launching its R5 handset with an even slimmer 4.85mm profile.

In terms of features, the S5.1 comes with a 4.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen. It runs on a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, with 1GB of RAM and 16 GB of non-expandable internal storage. Software is Android 4.4 KitKat with Gionee’s Amigo 2.0 forked on top. The rear features an 8MP camera and the svelte 100g body carries a pretty reasonable 2050 mAh battery.

Gionee is also touting LTE connectivity for the S5, but we don’t know if it will support Indian LTE bands. Other connectivity features included are Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and OTG connectivity.
