Google Glass deactivated on its social media accounts

Four years after Alphabet Inc’s Google launched its wearable glass headset, it shut down several social media accounts that were linked to the Glass gadget, hence ending its push to promote the pricey eyeglasses with consumers. The Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts for Google Glass were deactivated on Tuesday. The development was reported on the website 9to5Google.

Google Plus Page had a statement mentioned on it which greeted the Explorers and said that they had a blast while hanging out with them on G+ throughout the Explorer Program. There were also many instructions given to the users to get in touch with questions on the support page for Glass. There was no comment made by the company on the decision.

As a strategy to reset, Google stopped the sale of Glass to consumers last year. Since then the head of the Google X research lab said that the hype surrounding the US $1,500 device became overblown bearing in mind that it was merely a prototype and not a finished product. The glass was first unveiled in the year 2012 and it was greeted with enthusiasm among tech aficionados. The device enables users to access e-mails on its eye-level screen and also to record video with a tiny camera. The device however ran into problems soon. Users were worried if it could be used to make video recordings surreptitiously. Also some users mocked its awkward appearance.

The disappearance of Glass’s social accounts was interpreted by many on Twitter. It meant a final end to the efforts to market the product to consumers. Jonas Haberkorn tweeted that Google Glass for consumers was dead. Few users lamented the disappearance of the device’s social presence. Mark Tompkins, a trader and former hedge fund partner expressed his Disappointment in Google’s decision to remove GoogleGlass from Twitter and Facebook.  He said maximum is learned from actual recorded history.
