The first phase of PM Modi’s pet project Digital India is an outreach campaign that aims at spreading knowledge about Digital India. According to a report of The Hindustan Times, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad the Minister of Communications of Information Technology will inaugurate the campaign. Modi plans to create awareness all over Indian. To start with he plans to send vans to cover 34 districts in nine states for Digital India awareness. According to a report, in the first phase 16 vans will be sent out to 34 districts of nine states namely, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan. For this purpose, the Government plans to use 66 vans to cover 657 districts. They estimate that the first 34 districts will be covered by the end of the next month, and the remaining districts will be covered by the end of 31 March 2017.
These vans will provide information in 14 different languages namely Hindi, Marathi, English, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Manipuri, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bengali and Urdu, so that no person fails to understand it. They will be educating people about audio-visuals, internet connectivity, educational material etc. and there by creating awareness about the advantages of going digital.
With Digital India awareness, the government is aiming to reach out to 10 lakh citizens. The government has planned to introduce them to different services like the MyGov, Digital Locker, Aadhaar and so on. It will work towards one of the prime features of the Digital India campaign which is deeper digital penetration in rural areas.
