Regarding the details of the panic button, DoT has specified that all feature phones should have their numeric keys 5 or 9 configured in a way to trigger the panic button option. All smart phones, on the other hand should have the power button configured in a way so that 3 times short pressing of the same can trigger the panic button option. Arvind Khanna said that, the DoT notification gives us an impetus to collaborate with mobile phone companies by integrating our services and technologies towards addressing this pressing and urgent requirement.

Using the OTR’s open Application Program Interface, all companies that are manufacturing smart phones can incorporate the service directly in the smart phones. This step will result in giving immediate response to that user who finds himself or herself in a situation where their personal safety and security is threatened. The company also said that this is of dual advantage to the user, as not only smart phones can incorporate the OTR app, but the feature phones can also take advantage of the OTR solution by combining its SOS service with the SMS system.
