Here are the first 6 pages, plus an exclusive artwork from Fight Club 2

It has been two years now that we first heard of Chuck Palahniuk working on a graphic novel sequel to his acclaimed novel Fight Club. And now, Dark Horse Comics, the publisher, has released a preview of Fight Club 2 #1, the first issue of Chuck Palahniuk’s 10-issue sequel.

Most Fight Club fans already know the story from the 1999 film adaptation by David Fincher that featured Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter and went on to become a cult favorite. For Fight Club 2, all you really need to know is that the unnamed narrator is now calling himself Sebastian and he’s married to Marla Singer. They have a son and a relatively normal existence ten years after Project Mayhem, but, as you’d guess, they’re really unhappy.

The preview, published by nudie mag – and occasional newsmagazine – Playboy, has this synopsis, “Some imaginary friends never go away… Ten years after starting Project Mayhem, he lives a mundane life. A kid, a wife, pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won’t last long; the wife has seen to that. The time has come…Rize or Die.”

The author goes further, “The sequel will be told from the– at first– submerged perspective of Tyler Durden as he observes the day-to-day tedium of the narrator’s life.  Because 20th Century-Fox created the convention of calling the protagonist Jack, I’m calling him Cornelius.  He’s living a compromised life with a failing marriage, unsure about his passion for his wife.  The typical midlife bullshit.  Likewise, Marla is unsatisfied and dreams of accessing the wild man she’d once fallen in love with.  She tampers with the small pharmacy of drugs that her husband needs to suppress Tyler, and– go figure– Tyler reemerges to terrorize their lives.”

Penned by artist Cameron Stewart, the first issue of Fight Club 2 will hit comic stores on May 27th. Until then, head over to Playboy for the first six pages. Be warned, though, it is very NSFW. And we still don’t know if we are allowed to talk about it.
