Here’s the high quality Suicide Squad trailer that drove Comic Con nuts

The Suicide Squad trailer was one of the big events at Comic Con during the Warner Bros panel, giving fans the first real look at Jared Leto as the new Joker. For those who weren’t there, a low-quality version of the trailer leaked online over the weekend, so director David Ayer just went ahead and released the official trailer himself now.

Suicide Squad is one of the most anticipated DC Comics coming to the screen. The plot sees a rogue’s gallery of incarcerated super villains given a ‘get out of jail free’ card and the chance at a clean slate. The only catch is they have to do the government’s dirty work.

Major villains who make an appearance in the trailer include the Joker’s right-hand gal, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). The footage ends with a shot of Leto as the Joker. “I’m not going to kill you,” he says. “I’m just going to hurt you really, really bad.”

Warner Bros was angered by the leak, too, though the studio shouldn’t be surprised because this always happens at large events like Comic Con. Sue Kroll, the studio’s president of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, told Deadline:[blockquote type=”left”]Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.[/blockquote]

Suicide Squad is one of 10 movies based on DC Comics characters that Warner Bros. has planned to hit theaters by 2020. Warner announced its extended comic book movie slate, which also includes films based on Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, the Green Lantern Corps and Aquaman, last October.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
