Creating a 3D hologram using just your smartphone and some ordinary household objects is really easy, as YouTube user Mrwhosetheboss shows us.
The end result isn’t exactly a hologram in the true sense of the word, but for the money, it is so close enough that we can’t resist sharing it here. Here’s what you will need: graph paper, a CD case, tape, a pen, scissors, a knife and, of course, a smartphone.
Once you have these objects, the rest is pretty easy if you follow his instructions: Just cut out a rhombus-shaped piece on the graph paper, according to the dimensions in the video. You’ll be using this as your template to cut out four shapes from your plastic CD case. Then stick them all together and place your creation on top of your smartphone, and voila, you are done.
Now fire up a hologram-specific YouTube video, turn off all the lights and you have your very own homemade 3d light show.
Since being uploaded yesterday, Mrwhosetheboss’s short tutorial has been viewed more than a quarter of a million times on YouTube. It would do you good to add one more view to that number, even if you aren’t willing to go to all the trouble of cutting out pieces of plexiglass and paper.
Now all we need is a hologram of 2 Pac to complete the picture, err… hologram.
