You might remember how HTC’s big launch of its flagship One M9 was slightly offset with the news of the handset overheating to unbearable degrees in some tests. Early reports pinpointed the problem at Qualcomm’s door, stating that their Snapdragon 810 processor was the culprit. The report was made all the more believable by the fact that Samsung chose not to use the same processor for its flagship Galaxy S6.
It seems like all is well in HTC land now. A member of XDA forums is reporting that HTC has solved this spicy problem. His source with a One M9 received an OTA update with the changelog: “thermal improvements and camera improvements.” A Twitter user is also reporting that HTC has finalized software and devices are ready to be shipped. Just in time for the early April time frame.
“Something to calm you guys down a little (and believe me, I’m most glad to hear this too),” user Robanoid said on Reddit. “My source just received an OTA update. Changelog: thermal improvements and camera improvements. Device now runs approximately 9-10℃ lower now. Max temperature reached now (even while plugged to charger) [is] 40℃. Sounds good to me… way to go HTC!”
HTC was supposed to launch the HTC One M9 a few days ago in its home country, but the company had to push back the launch due to unmentioned software issues. The flagship phone is now on track for an April 10th in the US.
