In India, Huawei is in the process of reorganizing its mobile business with the aim of focusing on speedier decision making. To fulfill its main objective of becoming No. 1 globally by toppling Samsung and Apple, China’s largest smart phone player hopes to use growth in the country. The company which has its headquarters at Shenzen is now interested in increasing its offline presence. They are therefore considering to apply for, single-brand retail licence, and the process has been incentivized after the mandatory local sourcing norms for three years had been relaxed by the government on Monday. This was told to Economy Times by people familiar with the matter.
A senior executive who is aware of the developments at the company said operationally, headquarters will directly oversee India’s consumer business, the restructuring is being undertaken. Currently the devices business is under the consumer division, reports first to the India CEO and then to the global consumer business group.
The rationale is to remove interim layers for speeding up the decision process so that in an intensely competitive market they can compete better, where before getting upstaged by a competitor a handset has a maximum lead time of two to three months. The person also said that India will be a priority market for Huawei globally, so there will be hiring on ground across the country. With in the next 4 to 5 years the company aims to be the largest smart phone maker all over the globe so they have made changes in the structure. Currently the largest smart phone maker is Samsung followed by Apple and then Huawei. But in China, which is their home market Huawei holds the first position followed by Xiaomi, Apple, Vivo, Oppo and Samsung.
