Is this the upcoming BlackBerry Mercury?

Being an avid BlackBerry device user, I have always liked what the folks at BB have done with their phones. Their latest Priv slider phone has been in top of my wishlist from the time I had seen it first. BlackBerry was one of the first brands to get the QWERTY keypads on phones. Initially aimed for the suited blokes, the BB phones later found its way to the hearts of the not-so-corporate collegians. The QWERTY style was adopted by many other manufacturers but none could match the panache of the BlackBerry’s.

There is a saying. Live by the sword, die by the sword, and for BlackBerry you can say that they follow – Live by the QWERTY keypad, die by the QWERTY keypad. In the latest trend where phone makers are stretching out the screens and making the bezels disappear, BlackBerry is still not ready to give up on its iconic phone signature. In latest BB news, fresh images of their new upcoming device have emerged on the internet that shows BlackBerry’s commitment to QWERTY keypads.

Dubbed as the BlackBerry Mercury, the upcoming smartphone will likely be the company’s last in-house developed phone to be rolled out in the market. Like their latest phones, the Mercury will feature Android OS, which in this case seems to the v.6 Marshmallow. On the visual front, it might not be a very glamorous looking smartphone but will definitely attract BB enthusiasts. Its boxy looks are reminiscent to the Sony Ericsson P1 that came in 2007.
