Love has witnessed some real transformation over time. First there were love letters. Some carried by birds, some by humans on foot and some just flew on their own. Then came the Telephone, which was then flamed to death by the Internet. The Telephone then resurrected, made the internet its friend and we now have video calls, chat services and dating apps for the ones who don’t understand happiness and are waiting to be miserable.
Distance has always been the spanner in Love’s cog wheels, and no matter what, the out of sight, out of mind phrase does raise its ugly head when where your heart lies is far away and for too long. Enter Kissenger, a device that connects to your cellphone and allows for a kiss to happen, even when your lips and hers are in different time zones.
It works with embedded pressure sensors and actuators, which records a kiss on one side and then transmits and recreates it on an identical device on the other end, through an app that also supports video calling. We aren’t too far then from a time, where a robotic clone of your lover will fill in for his/her absence and then be so good at it, you might just forget the real deal. Strange how strange doesn’t surprise anymore.
