Vivo recently launched the Y28s 5G featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC in select markets last month, with speculation about its arrival in India. While Vivo has not confirmed its availability in India, leaks suggest competitive pricing for this budget-friendly Y series handset.
According to a report from 91Mobiles citing tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore, the base model of the Vivo Y28s 5G with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage could start at Rs. 13,999. The variants with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage are rumored to be priced at Rs. 15,499 and Rs. 16,999, respectively.
Comparatively, in Malaysia, the Y28s 5G is priced at RM 799 (approximately Rs. 14,000) for the 12GB + 128GB model and RM 999 (around Rs. 18,000) for the 16GB + 256GB model, suggesting an anticipated price point around Rs. 15,000 in India. The handset will be available in Mocha Brown and Twinkling Purple colors.
As for specifications, the Y28s 5G runs on Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14, featuring a 6.56-inch HD+ LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 840nits brightness. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, expandable virtually up to 16GB.
Camera-wise, it boasts a dual rear setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor, complemented by an 8-megapixel front camera. The handset includes IP64-rated dust and splash resistance.
Connectivity options encompass dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5G, a 3.5mm audio jack, GPS, and USB Type-C, with NFC available in select regions. Security features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and sensors onboard include accelerometer, ambient light, e-compass, proximity, and color temperature sensors. It packs a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging support and weighs 185 grams.
While Vivo has yet to confirm the launch date in India, the Y28s 5G promises to deliver robust features at an appealing price point in the competitive budget segment.
