Lenovo discontinuing the Vibe Series to make way for more Motorola handsets is a rumour

It has just been two months since Lenovo began integrating its Mobile business group into Motorola Mobility and the company is rumored to have been already making strategic changes to suit the combined lineup of the two smart phone majors. According to the said rumour, in the first major move, the company has decided to do away with the Vibe series altogether so that it can concentrate more on the mid and high end segments offered by Motorola. Currently, the company maintains three brands which include Vibe, Motorola and Lemon. The company has a good range of phones in the Vibe series.

Lenovo Vibe P1 and Lenovo Vibe S1 have been very well accepted by users around the world. Market research firm Canalys is of the opinion that Lenovo’s decision to discontinue the Vibe series could be an indication that the company now intends to aggressively push the Motorola smart phones in the mid and high end segments. The research firm further goes on to say that this move will reduce cannibalization while at the same time simplify the existing smart phone portfolio currently owned by Lenovo.

In the month of August, Lenovo had informed the media that the company intends to primarily rely upon Motorola to design, develop and manufacture smart phone products. Former Motorola President, Rick Osterloh was also appointed as the leader of the company’s combined global smart phone business unit.

With Lenovo now intending to push more Motorola devices, users can expect more variety in the existing range of budget and high end smart phones like the Moto g (3rd Generation) and Moto X Play and Moto X Style. The company also recently launched the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 in the United States and it plans to launch the same handset elsewhere in the world as the Moto X Force. However, Lenovo has clarified to us that the speculations regarding the company discontinuing the Vibe series aren’t true. According to the company spokesperson, Vibe remains an important brand in the Lenovo mobile family and we plan to continue to expand and grow the franchise in select markets around the world.
