Lenovo Group Ltd., a Chinese multinational computer technology company, has its headquarters located in Beijing, China, and Morrisville, North Carolina, United States. The company basically deals with designing, development, manufacturing and sales of tablet computers, personal computers, Workstations, electronic storage device, smart phones, servers, smart televisions and IT management software. By means of sales, Lenovo was the world’s largest personal computer vendor in 2015. The ThinkCentre line of desktops and the ThinkPad line of notebook computers is marketed by them. Lenovo operates in more than 60 countries and its products are sold in around 160 countries.

The company has a joint venture with EMC known as LenovoEMC which sells network-attached storage solutions. It also has a joint venture with NEC known as Lenovo NEC Holdings that produces personal computers for the Japanese market. Currently it is the world’s fourth-biggest smart phone company and is planning to expand its partnership with Reliance Retail in order to distribute more of its affordable smart phones — Vibe. The company is hoping to deepen its presence in smaller towns and cities. Once Reliance Jio launches its services, the company’s phones would get a huge leg up.
Sudhin Mathur, director for smart phone business at Lenovo India says that they need to test (the networks) as it needs special software to be enabled on to the phone. It is an ongoing process as per him and the company will be looking at a different price tier. He says that right now they are a premium ladder and their intent is to come down. Reliance Jio, a Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries’ telecommunications unit, is expected to launch commercial 4G services later this year. It also plans to offer high speed internet services on smart phones as compared to currently available services. Reliance Retail had created a separate arm to distribute and sell 4G handsets of different companies which includes lenovo and its own brand called LYF.
