LG G6 with FullVision display and dual rear camera setup launched at MWC 2017

Following the manufacturer’s new ‘Less Artificial, More Intelligence’ theme, a new LG G6 was launched at the MWC 2017. LG’s new flagship, the G6 has been designed with focus on usability, rather than making the smartphone a spec sheet hero. As a result, the device features a narrow, and longer 564 ppi, QHD+, 5.7-inch FullVision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, compared to the current 16:9 standards.

According to LG, movies and smartphones in the future will be moving towards this new 18:9 aspect ratio. The G6 is also the first smartphone ever to support ‘Dolby Vision’ and ‘HDR10’. And Dolby says that they already have more than 90 titles ready for the G6’s 18:9 format. While Imangi Studios have readied their Temple Run 2: Lost Jungle for the phone, providing 650,000 in-game coins to early adopters of the G6.

With single handed operation in mind, LG has managed to fit a 5.7-inch display, inside a body that is fit for a 5.2-inch screen. The bottom bezel size has been optimized for the same, offering enhanced reliability and reduced chances of dropping the phone. Powering the LG G6 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, backed with 4GB RAM and 32/64 GB storage options (expandable till 2Tb).

It comes with a dual rear camera setup with twin 13MP sensors – one for wide-angle shots with the 125-degree lens and f/2.4 aperture, and the other for regular shots with 71-degree lens and OIS 2.0. At the front, the smartphone features a 5MP 100 degree wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. Powering the hardware on the LG G6 is a 3300mAh, non-removable battery, which supports Quick Charge 3.0.

The LG G6 runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with LG’s new UX 6.0 running on top and also is the first non-Pixel phone to feature Google Assistant. The phone even employs additional safety measures in the form of a copper heat pipe to better dissipate heat.

The smartphone comes with an IP68-rating for dust and water resistance and supports LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0 connectivity. It will be available in Astro Black, Ice Platinum, and Mystic White colour options. Although the phone has been launched, there is no word on availability and pricing yet. We’ll update you with those details as and when they arrive. Stay tuned!
