Want to get rid of your addiction to your smart phone? Here is an app which will help you restrain from the use of the device during conferences, meetings and social gatherings. This new application is developed by Scientists in Korea. We all know that the use of these modern pocket – sized communication devices are actually taking over our lives. The capability of our mobile phones are increasing day by day. We have excellent communication ability with the use of smart phone with instant messaging, instant emails, etc. But as we are busy living and working in our own little worlds, the communication is getting totally disorganized. As per the researchers, there is an increased concern about the addiction and the distraction due to overuse of smart phones.
The new application is the Lock n LoL app. It implies Lock Your Smartphone and Laugh Out Loud. This application keeps people from using their smart phones when busy in meetings, conferences and other social activities by locking all of their smart phones altogether.
As per the researchers of KAIST i.e.the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, people tend to overuse smart phones because of their habit of checking emails, status updates on social networking sites, messaging, etc. Apart from that, if an external stimulus like notification or alarm is applied or turned on, it adds on to the distraction.
In the app, a new room can be created by the users where an invitation can be sent to friends or meeting participants. The ID is then shared with the members of the room to join the Group Limit (lock) mode. All kinds of external stimuli get muted and the user requires a permission to unlock their phones. The app has a temporary ‘unlimit’ mode which allows the users to use their smart phones for a total of five minutes. The application also features a Co-location Reminder which encourages users to minimize their device use by detecting and listing nearby users. The app also tracks important statistics like current week’s total limit time, the average usage time in a week, top activities in which the users participated, and top friends ranked by time spent together in order to monitor users’ behavior.
