Microsoft’s first Windows 10 ad is here and it will make you smile

Windows 10 is almost here, and Microsoft kicked off the global advertising campaign for the new operating system with the first video now available on YouTube.

Compared to their previous ads, the Windows 10 ad is much more subtle, almost Apple-like. Using footage of children from across the globe gurgling, waddling, and gnawing on their feet, a voiceover explains that they will have an easier life because “these kids will grow up with Windows 10.” Windows is shown for only about seven seconds, with a quick montage of Hello, the Start menu, the Edge browser, and Cortana. Instead of showing how any of the Windows 10 technologies work, however, Microsoft chose to explain how a new generation will grow up with what Windows 10 embodies: touchscreens, the disappearance of passwords (Windows Hello), a digital assistant who talks to you (Cortana), and more.

Writing about the video in a blog post, the Windows team says:[blockquote type=”left”]To bring the campaign to life, we see young children from around the world in their natural settings in Morocco, Thailand, Iceland, England and the U.S. Supporting our mission of empowering every person and organization to achieve more, the ads show how technology should be more natural, human and intuitive, and adapt to people’s needs. The key notion – Windows 10 delivers a more human way to do. Enjoy![/blockquote]For Windows 10, Microsoft has promised a multi-million dollar advertising campaign, so this one you see here is just the beginning of a much broader effort that will bring Windows 10 ads pretty much everywhere you look. As compared to Windows 8, when Microsoft also invested a huge budget to make the OS successor, Windows 10 isn’t getting just a single big launch, but several smaller ones in cities across the world, backed by a campaign called “Upgrade your world” which calls for everyone to benefit from the free upgrade to Windows 10 and install the new OS on computers eligible for the offer in their communities.

Microsoft employees too will join this effort and on July 29 will take a day off to upgrade their communities, but expect many more Windows 10 news in the coming weeks as we get closer to the big launch.
