Minister invites AMD to partner with Image City

AMD, which is a semiconductor major and Advanced Micro Devices’ specialist has revealed its plans to create and expand operations in computer graphics, gaming, virtual reality and manufacturing, to K.T. Rama Rao, the Industries and IT Minister, when he visited the firm headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, on Friday. The Minister, at that time, interacted with AMD Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster and senior VP, human resource and corporate communications, Ruth Cotter. He has invited AMD to partner with the proposed IMAGE city. AMD also took turn to inform the Minister that the new processor chip ‘Zen’ had been completely designed out of the capital city of Telangana and it had been very instrumental in creating computer graphics for movies like ‘Bahubali’.

AMD had planned to work closely with Tollywood and even other film related industries as far as the graphics sector is concerned, a press release said. Mr. Rao has urged AMD to consider manufacturing its products in Telangana and make the State its choice for investments in gaming and animation sector. This has the potential in aiding the central government’s Make in India campaign. Since the firm gives top priority to R&D, the minister requested it to partner with premier educational institutes of the State like the IIT-H, IIIT-H and Basara, BITS and NIT. AMD representatives have shown keen interest in the proposed VLSI Academy and even promised to consider joining it.

The entry of AMD into a partnership with the image city will  have multiple benefits for all concerned. The global company will also earn from cheap labour while the country and the government will be able to fill its coffers due to the foreign exchange earned by the company by doing its business here.
